Boarding.

Stannies is home to approximately 140 boarders, from the ages of 12-18. The boys originate from all different parts of the state, many of them travelling up to 7 or 8 hours to return to school from holidays.

In years 7-9 the boys live in shared dorms, each student having their own lockable cupboard and safe, desk and bed. In years 10-12, the boys are lucky enough to each have their own separate rooms, to encourage them to start practicing their own necessary study habits to excel in the senior school.

The boarders can be compared to almost a huge family living in the school. Many of the younger boarders see the senior boarders as young men to look up to, as role models for them to strive to the act like. The older students also act as a support network for the younger boys to gain knowledge, seek advice or just to talk when they are in need.

The boarders eat all there meals in the college refectory. The kitchen staff in the ref, work tirelessly to satisfy the needs and wants of all the hungry boys.

SCHOOL DAYS.
The boys follow the following routine for Monday to Friday mornings.
7:00am: Wake Up.
7:00-8:00am: The refectory is open for boys to have breakfast. All boys must attend breakfast in their school uniforms. Breakfast consists of cereal, fruit, toast and condiments.
8:15am: Room inspections. The staff make sure the boys rooms are neat and tidy, beds made and desk clean before they go to school.
8:30am - Dorms are locked and students head to quadrangle for school for the day.
8:30am- 3:25pm- Boys attend normal school classes.
3:25pm- Dormitories opened for boys to get changed before they go and participate in sports training etc.
At night,  the boys have compulsory study. The time allocated for study is determined by the year group. eg, Year 7/8/9 study less than year 10/11/12. In this time, the boys complete their assessment tasks and allocated homework for each subjects. Staff members supervise the study, and help students with any questions they may ask about their work.

WEEKENDS.
On the weekends, if they are not playing any sport, the boys are usually allowed a bit of a sleep in, as they are exhausted from their busy weeks, However, the majority of our boarders are actively involved in a range of different sports on a Saturday. Our staff members will wake them up and make sure they are ready for their sports on Saturday morning, including the boys who are travelling to play sport in different towns. Of a Saturday afternoon you can normally find boarders relaxing in their recreational spaces watching television, playing games on their devices, playing ping pong and talking and laughing in a group together. Or you may find them outside playing sports such as touch footy, tennis or swimming in the summer.
On a Sunday, the boys are allowed some time to sign out and go down into Bathurst. Many of the boys use this as an opportunity to go and meet up with friends from other schools, hang out with each other but for the boarders, the best part of going down town is going to the local fast food places, including KFC and McDonalds.
